Former overseas player Mark Steketee looks be building himself a bright future in the game.
After spending the summer in Bexhill as a raw 17 year old, the shy lad from Warwick is turning heads back home with some stunning performances. Mark was recently named one of the Players of the Tournament in the prestigious National Under 19 Championships in Adelaide. Opening the bowling for Queensland Mark was the 3rd highest wicket taker in the competition with best figures of 5-34 against Victoria and he helped the Queensland team win the competition for the first time in 10 years.
Having been made to relocate to Brisbane to play Grade Cricket, Mark made his A-Grade debut for South Brisbane against the Western Suburbs taking 6-16. That and his Queensland performances at Under 19 level got him a selection for the Queensland Academy of Sport XI.
To top off a stellar summer so far for "Steggs", he won the fast bowling competition for Queensland at the Gabba on live television. During the tea break at each test match venue Australian Broadcasters Channel 9 (the home of Ritchie, Bull and Tony), showcase a fast bowling competition to find the quickest Under 18 year old. Mark won the Queensland final at a speed of 138 kph. He now goes through to the National Final - all of this live on TV.
Not bad for a lad who once famously got lost in Bisto's house..........
