The Bexhill Under 13's have won the Sussex Junior Cricket Festival for the first time beating Findon CC in the final which was played at the Keymer and Hassocks ground.
Having won all their games in the week Bexhill went into the final full of confidence however a Findon side who included many very talented cricketers provided a different challenge. Findon took the early advantage bowling very tight lines and frustrated the Bexhill batsmen who were unable to play with any freedom. They dismissed the weeks prolific batsman Cameron Burgon for 15 and Bexhill were presented with a formidable task to make a competitive total, however Ethan Guest and Edward Lemmon put on 61 for the 6th wicket and the tail wagged meaning Bexhill finished their overs with a total of 153-9.
In reply the bowling was all about one player, Ethan Guest. Findon were bowled out for 101 with Guest taking 6-24 from 7 overs whilst there were two wickets for Alex Murray and one a piece for Callum Phillimore and Sam Jarvis. Special mention should go to Findon batsman Tom Lawson and Jack Pearce who batted with good control and at one point looked to be taking the game away from Bexhill.
The Man of the Match award was presented by Coach Martin Phillimore unsurprisingly to Ethan Guest for his 35 runs and figures of 6-24. Special mention was also made to Cameron Burgon for his performances during the week. In four innings he scored 232 runs whilst being dismissed only once, and made a fantastic top score of 119 not out.
The team over the week included: Will Edwards (Captain), Liam Foster (Vice C
aptain), Alex Murray, Ryan Boakes, Ethan Guest, Andrew Lovitt-Danks, Callum Phillimore, Robert Barnett, Tim Coneally, Cameron Burgon, Kieron Malone, Max Mowbray, Alex White and Sam Jarvis.
Well done boys. The scorecards from the week can be viewed here.
