Bexhill's 1st XI won promotion straight back to the Sussex Premier League on the final day of the summer which surprised most people and involved many bitten nails as well as good bar profits. With Bexhill needing a win against the leaders Worthing, we also then needed Glynde to drop points in their home match with Haywards Heath. Much has already been written about the circumstances however in summary Bexhill beat Worthing by 9 wickets and Haywards Heath hung on for a draw with just 1 wicket in tact. The results meant the Polegrove was jubiliant and the team will be back in the Premier League for 2011.
The 2nd XI tied their game with Three Bridges in controversial circumstances. Bexhill believed they had won the game by 1 run until after the game was finished it was decided taht actually the scores were tied. This meant 15 points to both sides. Bexhill were already relegated alas however the points to Three Bridges did mean that Roffey were also relegated.
The 3rd XI finished a respectable mid table after beating the league leaders Willingdon and whilst the 4th XI were not victorious on the day - they once again secured another promotion so will be playing higher up next year. The 5th team had a free week however other rsults meant they finished in 4th spot on the table - just one place away from promotion.
Sore heads would have been a plenty on Sunday morning. We congraulate Chris Topp and Derrick Fuller on leading their teams to promotion. Well done to all the players and thanks to our scorers, umpires and tea ladies who help make the league seasons run so smoothly.
Finally, a big thank you and goodbye to our Aussie Mark Steketee. Mark made a huge contribution to securing promotion for the 1st team and his work with the juniors, espially the quick bowlers is very evident. To cap off a fine season, "Steggs" was presented with the Reg Dawes Trophy for the Highest Number of League 6's hit for a Bexhill league team in 2011. Safe trip home Mark.
